  • Costco Brings Us A “Budget” Xbox 360 Bundle

    October 1st, 2005

While most game retailers are offering Xbox 360 Bundles, most of these are random assortments that tend to be more focused on increasing sales than satisfying gamers.

Enter Costco. Costco has announced (edit: link to Google Cache of page, as Costco has removed the page) a Xbox 360 bundle that will sell for $479.99 (for Costco members) and includes the Xbox 360 premium package, a bonus wireless controller, a play-and-charge kit for the controller and Project Gotham Racing 3. Non-members can pick up the system from Costco for an extra 5%, but at that price, you would do better just getting a membership to allow access to other items.

With most other Xbox 360 bundles being more than $600 (e.g. $699 from GameStop, which is now sold out), Costco is clearly targeting the more mainstream market.

    1. It’s about time someone decided to stop being so greedy with this. I’m so tired of seeing pricetags ranging from $700-$2000 for a system that is supposed to cost $400 by itself anyways. I understand that retailers don’t make much of a profit from the systems and make all of their money off accessories (as a former BBY employee that was always stressed), but they should know that no one is going to walk into the store and buy a $400 system and not get anything else to go with it. Personally I think this is the best deal around and absolutely agree that it would be worth paying for the membership than the 5%. I still haven’t decided what I’m going to do as far as the 360 vs. PS3, but I’m definately going to have to look at a Costco, Sam’s, or BJ’s before making a final decision on where to get it. Great article, thanks for the heads up.
